Bernie's take:
What should Christians do on Halloween?
First, study the origins and history of Halloween so you can be at peace with your own decision. There are some free links listed above, and the short articles only take a few minutes to read. Then you can seek God's direction with this background knowledge. Some Christian Churches also sponsor "Harvest Festivals" as an alternative to trick-or-treating for your children (see this for one sponsored by a church in Oregon City, near Portland)..
Can Christians dress up?
Personally, I think it can be fun to dress-up and enjoy the night. The key is to not get into the gruesome and morbid aspects. Instead of dressing-up like a ghost or zombie, I think it's fun when people are creative (such as dressing-up a kid like a puppy or cat).
Is there a way to redeem the night?
I think a good way to be a positive force is to entertain trick-or-treaters that come looking for candy. Give them some candy, and a Christian tract. There are Christians tracts that are made to be fun and interesting for Halloween. Click here to see them.
